Tourist attractions in Brasília, the vibrant capital of Brazil and a renowned UNESCO World Heritage Site, are plentiful. From avant-garde architecture to national parks, a city lake and an eclectic food scene, as well as luxury hotels and a thriving retail scene, here are 6 reasons to book your private jet charter to Brasília…

Shopping in Brasília

Retail therapy has become a national past-time in Brazil, and Brasília has a range of shopping malls and markets to visit. Luxury label fans will find their treasure in upscale Lago Norte’s Iguatemi mall. For unique vintage finds, head to the Feira da Ladra flea market on Camp de Santa Cara. You’ll find more gems at the TV Tower flea market on the Esplanada da Torre, while upscale mall Parkshopping near the Zoo has labels galore as well as restaurants and a cinema. Brasília’s largest indoor market is the Feira dos Importados, located at Taguatinga.

Brazilian Cuisine

Food in Brazil is a mix of Portuguese and international cuisine, and meat features heavily on the menu, although vegetarian options are increasingly available. Traditional dishes include: moqueca – a fish stew with coriander, onions and tomatoes served from a clay pot at the table alongside rice, farofa and porridge. Pão de queijo – Brazil’s cheese bread snack – is delicious with a crunchy outside and soft inside. Recommended restaurants in Brasilia include: Carpe Diem, Acquavit (on the shores of Lago Paranoá), Fogo de Chao steakhouse and Feitiço Mineiro with its traditional specialities.

Santuário Dom Bosco

Named after Brasília’s patron saint Dom Giovanni Melchiorre Bosco, whose vision of a utopian city inspired the creation of Brasília, the Santuário Dom Bosco is uninspiring from the outside. So step inside to appreciate its blue floor-to-ceiling windows that cover almost the entire space. Created from stained glass squares in 12 shades of blue and white dots the windows were created by Claudio Naves and made by Belgian artist Hubert Van Doorne. Visit at night for a spectacular view of the Murano glass chandelier by Alvimar Moreira.

Paranoá Lake

An idyllic escape from the hectic capital, Paranoá Lake is a 50-mile perimeter man-made idyll, created by damming the River Paranoá. It has three islands and visitors can enjoy swimming, sailing, watersports (including SUP). It’s a popular relaxation spot for locals and tourists with restaurants and cafes offering vantage points to watch the sunsets.

Cathedral of Brasília

Possibly the most well-recognised of architect Oscar Niemeyer’s Brazilian masterpieces, this Roman Catholic cathedral was inaugurated in 1970. The name refers to a popular pilgrimage site in Brazil, Aparecida, and has special acoustics, as well as beautiful stained glass and suspended angels.

Brasília National Park

Just 10km from the centre of Brasília, the city’s national biodiversity park is highly recommended. With around 163 square km of nature trails, it’s the world’s largest urban park with swimming pools, wildlife, streams, mineral springs, restaurants, and a large variety of flora. The park is a 20-minute drive from Brasília. Go early as the park closes at 5pm.
