Internationally renowned as the home of country music, Nashville is also the capital of the southern US state of Tennessee. Legendary music venues in the city include the Grand Ole Opry House and the Country Music Hall of Fame. Nashville also has plenty of history to explore at plantation houses and iconic distilleries, and an eclectic restaurant scene providing local and international cuisine.

Grand Ole Opry House

No visit to Nashville is complete without a visit to this iconic music venue on Opryland Drive. Now the world’s longest-running radio show, it spawned a 4,400-seat capacity venue that provides a weekly showcase of country, bluegrass and much more. From country legends to today’s hit makers, the Opry is Nashville’s number one attraction.

Johnny Cash Museum

A must for any Cash fan, the Johnny Cash museum is located on 3rd Avenue and is full of fabulous memorabilia from the Godfather of Country. “Whatever anybody needs to know about my Dad that they don’t know already is in that museum,” says his daughter Cindy.

Country Music Hall of Fame Museum

Take a self-guided tour along two floors of Country Music history and memorabilia, with photographs, original recordings, video, interactive exhibits and archive video. Visit the Hall of Fame Rotunda, where country music icons are honoured with their own plaque. Inductees include Glen Campbell, Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn and many more.

Nashville Parthenon

With Greek Revival architecture a ubiquitous style choice in the South, perhaps it’s not surprising that Nashville has its own full-sized replica of the Greek Parthenon. Built in 1897 for the Tennessee Centennial exhibition, today the temple houses an impressive art museum with classical and contemporary works. The surrounding Centennial Park has its own lake, swimming pool and boathouse.

Belle Meade Plantation

A well-preserved example of the South’s Greek Revival Ante-Bellem architecture, Belle Meade Plantation is six miles west of Nashville. It was once the largest thoroughbred horse farm in the US, and visitors can still walk around 34 acres of the original 5,400-acre property. You’ll see the original 1853 Mansion, as well as the 1890 carriage house and stables.

Jack Daniel Distillery, Lynchburg

The world-famous distillery celebrated its 150th year in 2016 – a whisky brand popular the world over, and the oldest registered distillery in the US. Its eponymous creator created his dream concoction in Lynchburg, using the iron-free spring water from a cave on the property, and this water is still used today. Join the Flight of Jack Distillery Tour which gives visitors taster of five samples of JD whiskeys.

Nashville Restaurants

Yes, you can plump for burgers, ribs and fries here all day long, but Nashville’s restaurant scene now offers visitors some of the best cuisine in the country. Visit top-of-the scale The Catbird Seat on Division Street for an astonishing 10-to-12 course menu from master chef Trevor Moran. The 404 Kitchen’s traditional European cuisine on 12th Avenue S is worth a taste, as is the cornbread gnocchi at City House on Fourth Avenue.
