Cannes – the jewel of the French Riviera – is widely known for its glitz and glamour provided by celebrities and notables who live or visit in the area. With its elegant Belle Epoque hotels, the famous film festival, high-end retail and fabulous restaurants, as well as an idyllic setting on the Golfe de la Napoule Bay, Cannes offers visitors a gentle climate, beautiful beaches and an active cultural life. Here are 5 reasons to visit Cannes by private jet charter.

Croisette Beach

Croisette beaches are a hive of activity during the season. Sited on a long cove they are shallow enough for safe swimming and make the perfect backdrop to the superb restaurants. Kick back with an apéro and enjoy the views across to the Lérins Islands. During the film festival head to the quieter Port Canto or Midi beaches.

Isles de Lérins

This group of four enchanting islands lies just off Cannes and easily reachable by a 15-minute ferry boat from the harbour. Ile Sainte-Marguerite is the largest and boasts hidden covers, pine and eucalyptus forests, secluded beaches and well-marked walking trails. The Cistercian monks who live on the adjacent Île Saint-Honorat (the islands’ only inhabitants) make fine wines available for tasting.

Château de la Napoule

This once-ruined castle was purchased in 1917 by Americans Marie and Henry Clews who took 17 years to restore the chateau to its former glory. Now a Monument Nationale, Château de la Napoule houses an impressive art collection and international arts programmes. As well as over four acres of landscaped gardens to explore, there’s also a café and the former home of Princess Pless, the Villa Marguerite.

Musée de la Castre

Located in Le Suquet (Cannes Old Town) high above the harbour, the renowned Musée de la Castre is housed in a medieval castle with beautiful views across the Bay to the Lérins Islands. This historical monument boasts a fine collection of art, archaeological artefacts and antiquities, surrounded by a tranquil pine-filled Mediterranean garden.

Le Suquet – Cannes Old Town

Perched high above the modern town, Cannes Old Town is a warren of ancient sun-baked streets concentrated around Suquet Hill. Go early in the morning or late at night for less crowded experience of the atmospheric area. There are plenty of cafés, restaurants, independent shops and bars here to explore.

Marché Forville

A Cannes institution, Marché Forville was pedestrianised in 2012 and offers visitors an unforgettable flavour of the Mediterranean. Stalls here include fish, vegetables, handmade local delicacies, meats and much more. Italian food is a star here – head for Julien Darmigny’s stall and his delicious fresh pasta, while Julien Rostan‘s organic produce includes olives to die for. Open Tuesday to Sunday. On Monday’s there’s a popular flea market here.
