Charter demand expected ahead of European knockout phase draws
The group stages of the Champions League and Europa League have come to a close. 48 teams have progressed to the knockout phases, and the next round’s fixtures will be revealed at 11am GMT on Monday 11th December. After a surge of enquiries for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, Chapman Freeborn is once again standing by to provide further group air charter solutions for football teams and their fans.
For the first time in Champions League history, five teams from the same nation have qualified for the tournament’s Round of 16. Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham cannot play one another in this round due to competition rules, however they will be hoping to avoid the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and PSG in Monday’s draw.

Footballing giants Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund both placed 3rd in their Champions League groups, meaning that they have been entered into the Round of 32 stage of the Europa League. They join tough competition in the shape of Arsenal, AC Milan and Lyon. FC Astana have qualified for a European knockout stage for the first time in their history, so they will be hoping to continue this success.
Clubs are not the only ones eagerly anticipating the draw, held in UEFA’s headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland. Fan groups for each team will also be standing by to coordinate travel arrangements for wherever their team will be playing. After sports draws such as these, Chapman Freeborn inevitably receive a rush of enquiries to transport teams and fans alike.

Journeys by road for European fixtures are now a rarity. Ensuring that athletes arrive at their destination in optimum condition is paramount to a team’s success, so air charter is a much more suitable form of group transport than uncomfortable, bumpy and slow coach journeys.
Simon Cooper, Passenger Charter Manager at Chapman Freeborn explains:
“Every team would choose aircraft charter as their preferred form of transport if possible. Road traffic is unreliable, and can also leave players and staff agitated and restless – not ideal before a big game. Fortunately, Group Air Charter means that players arrive at their destination fresh and well rested for their upcoming fixture.”
