Chapman Freeborn appointed exclusive GSA for AN-12 in South East Asia & Australia

7h July 2006

Chapman Freeborn Airchartering is delighted to announce an exclusive joint venture with global cargo airline Vega which sees us appointed as General Sales Agent for South East Asia and Australia for the first European registered Antonov 12 freighter to be actually based in the region.

The Antonov 12 is equipped to latest ICAO and BR-NAV standards which permits operations globally.Operator Vega Airlines is an expert at transporting items such as explosives used in mining, oil / energy industry and other dangerous goods, as well as heavy and oversized pieces such as industrial cargos and AOG engines.

The aircraft is equipped with a removable roller system meaning it can accommodate ULD containers which makes for easier loading, greater security and faster handling times than typical bulk-loaded AN12s as it does not require heavy duty ground handling equipment such as a main deck loader and needs only a low deck loader or simple forklift. This is a huge advantage in the region as many airports do not have such equipment to handle other types and so we can operate this AN12 into many airports which other operators could not even consider.

Ultimately this saves clients time and money as their cargo can be delivered directly to the airport and flown where needed rather being forced to use slow seafreight options. This is key to many of our core clients such as the ships spares logistics, oil and gas industries, aircraft AOG etc where time is really pressing.Singapore is a particular regional hub for this type of business and Vega are accredited to transport cargo worldwide – no other AN12 operator in South East Asia has this accreditation.

Furthermore, the aircraft also features a unique approval from the Antonov Design Bureau to fly with a partially open rear door to accommodate the largest pieces. This unique configuration means that we can carry certain types of freight which would normally be off-limits to main-deck freighters.

The aircraft will provide availability and capacity to operate both regular and ad hoc cargo charters throughout South East Asia and the sales agreement means thatĀ Chapman Freeborn have sales exclusivity in South East Asia and Australia with Vega undertaking sales activity elsewhere in the world. Most importantly, whomever the client contacts, the pricing will be the same at any point for any route.

This agreement seeks to combine the synergies of both CF and Vega to maximise the flying on the aircraft and combin
