Poetry rains over London

Chapman Freeborn, the world’s leading aircraft charter specialist has assisted in a high-profile public art event dropping bookmarks featuring poetry over Jubilee Gardens at Southbank Centre in London.

The event aptly named Rain of Poems is part of Poetry Parnassus festival at Southbank Centre’s Festival of the World. Poetry Parnassus was also part of London 2012 Festival, a 12-week festival that brings together leading artists from across the world with the very best from the UK. The nationwide celebration runs from 21 June to 9 September 2012.

Following the last successful event in Germany also supported by Chapman Freeborn, it was the charter specialist’s London team that helped to arrange a helicopter charter to drop a hundred thousand poems printed on bookmarks over the gardens in London.

The drop, held on June 26, was the sixth “poetry rain” project from the Chilean art collective Casagrande and marked the beginning of Poetry Parnassus festival – the biggest gathering of poets in world history.

Chapman Freeborn has previously assisted in the arrangements of poetry bombing events in Warsaw (2009) and most recently Berlin (2010) – all cities which, like London, have suffered severe aerial bombings during their history.

Prior to this, the event took place at Santiago de Chile (2001), Dubrovnik (2002), and Gernika (2004).

Thousands of people came to watch the display and caught the bookmarks that bared poems written by over 300 contemporary poets from 204 countries.
