Dolphin delivery enjoys successful splashdown in Constanta
Chapman Freeborn Airchartering’s Bucharest team has arranged the transportation of three bottlenose dolphins from Beijing, China, to Constanta in Romania.
Following a successful bid to the Constanta Region Council, the global aircraft charter specialist oversaw an A310-300F flight to transport the three marine mammals which were being relocated from the Chinese capital to the Constanta Dolphinarium located on the Black Sea coast.
The dolphins - a male called Chenchen and two females called Nini and Pipi - were accompanied onboard by a team of six specialist attendants to guarantee their safety and well-being during the flight.
Chapman Freeborn’s Ostend and Istanbul teams sourced a ULS Airlines Cargo A310-300F aircraft for the charter from Beijing (PEK) to Bucharest (OTP), where the animals were cleared by customs officials and checked by veterinary experts.
The client required a direct flight to Romania, so ULS installed specialist Airbus equipment to activate additional fuel tanks during the 11 hour trip.
From Bucharest the aircraft flew to Constanta International Airport (CND) where it was met by the Chapman Freeborn Romania team.
Hans Luca, Liviu Banica and Ana Lixandru helped oversee the unloading of the cargo using cranes and special truck-loading forklifts, and arranged the onward road journey to the dolphinarium, where Chenchen, Nini and Pipi were successfully introduced to their new home.
Additional support for the charter was also provided by Chapman Freeborn’s Beijing team, who liaised closely with Beijing Aquarium ahead of the operation.
