Chapman Freeborn CEO Russi Batliwala appointed to TIACA board

The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) has announced the election of Russi Batliwala to its board of directors.

The Chapman Freeborn Airchartering CEO is one of five new appointments to the association which represents every part of the global air cargo supply chain.

Joining Batliwala as newly elected board members are Amy Smith, Head of Customs and Regulatory Affairs, DHL Express (USA), Inc, Chee Meng Wong, Senior Vice President, Cargo Services, SATS, Oliver Gritz, Chief Commercial Officer, MD Europe, Worldwide Air Logistics Group, Inc, and Greg Guillaume, Senior Vice President (Strategic Development), Atlas Worldwide Holdings Ltd.

The new officers, from Asia, Europe, and North America, will broaden the global reach and bring a wider scope of expertise to the TIACA board.

Welcoming the five new appointments, Doug Brittin, TIACA Secretary General, said:

“TIACA is the only association representing every part of the global supply chain and our board of directors reflects that breadth and diversity. They bring important insight into the issues facing different areas of our industry, adding richness and diversity to our leadership.”

Commenting on his selection, Russi Batliwala said:

“It's an honour to serve on the TIACA board and represent the interests of the air charter industry. I look forward to working with the team to help the association promote the air cargo sector as a whole.”

Russi Batliwala

Russi comes from an aviation family and worked for a number of commercial airlines before joining charter specialist Chapman Freeborn Germany in 1987.

He took over the management of Chapman Freeborn Germany in 1990 followed by the group’s total cargo product in early 2000. During his years with the company he has been involved in setting up a number of key global charter operations including subsidiaries in the US, UAE and Spain.

Since his appointment as CEO of the Chapman Freeborn Group in 2009, Russi has been instrumental in developing a vision and strategy for the company’s global expansion – which includes a network of over 30 locations worldwide.

In addition to the group’s core aircraft chartering activities, Russi has overseen the strengthening of the company’s portfolio of subsidiary businesses which include hand-carry specialist Chapman Freeborn OBC, flight operations provider Wings 24, and centralised load control supplier Air Dispatch CLC.

Last year the group was further enhanced with the strategic acquisition of Intradco Cargo Services – a leading equine and livestock air transport specialist with over three decades of experience. Russi continues to look at expansion and additional acquisitions to further strengthen the company going forward.

He is still involved in the day-to-day business of the group and remains passionate about the industry.
