All companies today face the challenge of managing the environmental impact of our working practices. Here are some of the ways we’re aiming to operate in an environmentally sustainable manner:
We recently received ISO 14001 certification on our internal environmental management systems. We are continually looking at ways in which we can conserve energy and minimise waste in all activities that we undertake.
Our objectives include:
We are monitoring developments in carbon offsetting closely, and we have asked ourselves whether this is a practical way in which we can make a difference.
The industry is still unregulated and at this point it remains almost impossible to calculate carbon offset costs in the context of our wide-ranging charter activities and the scope of aircraft used.
We believe that more information is needed and that widespread societal change is the most effective way to deal with climate change.
For now we feel that it is more beneficial to support tangible projects that deliver direct benefits. Our intention is to contribute a percentage of our annual profits to support worthwhile projects that the Chapman Freeborn Board judge to be of merit and that will make a real difference in communities. We hope you will join us in supporting these causes.
The first organisation we have chosen to support is the Estelle Trust, a registered charity promoting wind pump projects in rural Zambia.
Less than 50% of the rural population of Zambia has access to clean, sustainable water supplies. Harnessing the renewable power of the wind, clean water is pumped to irrigate subsistence farms and for the benefit of communal facilities such as schools, clinics and orphanages.
Most of the communities in this project practise conservation farming techniques, which increase yields by 40% from the same land utilisation, as well as arresting the process of deforestation and soil erosion.
This project has huge benefits for communities made poor by the ravages of HIV/AIDS, deforestation and lack of basic utilities, and has the potential to expand across the whole country.
Each individual wind pump project costs the Estelle Trust approximately $20,000.
We encourage our air charter clients to support this initiative by donating a full wind pump or making a contribution towards the sum of a project.
